Many people work long hours for peanuts and experience various forms of stress, so it’s unsurprising that they have problems relaxing and unwinding when they reach home. However, don’t worry as there so many things you could do to help relieve the stress in your life. Here are some ideas for how to relax, de-stress and generally unwind once you finally leave the office. Some people see the bath tub as the greatest place to unwind, complete with soothing music and sweet-smelling candles. Others get bored sitting in lukewarm water and would prefer a quick, stimulating bath. Go for whatever suits you. If you’re more into showers, buy a scented shower gel. If you prefer a bath tub, enliven it with oils and/or bath gels, as well as anything you know will help you relax. Listen to some soothing music While some might be soothed by classic music, if you like classic rock more, play it and dance a bit to relieve some of that stress. Read some book Whether the book’s on the good old paper or in electronic format, reading good material could help you forget about all the worries of the world. Just select carefully and pick something that’s easy to put down. The perfect relaxation book is one that’s not too interesting but quite interesting. Breathe deeply Have a 5-minute break where you concentrate on your breathing. Close your eyes and sit up straight. Place one hand on the belly. Slowly breathe in through your nose. Then reverse the action by exhaling using your mouth. Deep breathing counters stress effects by slowing down the heart rate and reducing blood pressure. Have a drink Take a drink or two. However, this is not an excuse to get absolutely sloshed and pass out in your bed. However, if having a bottle of cold beer or some wine helps you unwind, go for it by all means. Stay comfortable Get into a relaxing mode by changing into comfy clothes. Do you have an outfit you like that’s lying around the place? Get into it, so long as it’s comfy. Move around nude, slip into boxer shorts, put on a night t-shirt–do whatever you can to relax. Enjoy nature Get outside, sit on some blanket or bench and have your mind go quiet while engaging each sense. This is an absolutely effective method to unwind. Do you see, hear and smell something?
