Stress is a condition that is characterized by emotional and mental strains that are always harmful. A stressed person is prone to psychological breakdown. Causes of stress are very numerous. People react to the causes of stress differently. Where we can be a source of our stress. At the workplace, one can be affected by being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, and working under dangerous conditions. The other category of stress is the life stress. These emanate from the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job, getting married and much more.
Stress can also emanate from inside a person. It is possible to stress oneself by worrying about some things. Examples of such are fear and certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes. Stress is a form of mental instability. Hence, the need to be stress free. There are proven negative health effects of stress. These include a headache, fatigue, difficulty in sleeping and irritability. The worst can happen with some of these health implications of stress. However, there are ways that can help a stressed person to do away with the stress.
Below are examples of tips that can assist a person to deal with stress. Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol should be avoided by avoided when a person is experiencing stress. Both nicotine and caffeine are stimulants. These substances affect increasing the stress levels as opposed to the belief of reducing the stress levels. Alcohol is a depressant when taken in large quantities, however, it is not a helpful way of dealing with stress. Getting more sleep is a simple way that can help a stressed person to reduce the stress levels. This is so, since lack of enough sleep is capable of causing stress. There are certain relaxation techniques that can assist someone to reduce stress. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.
The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. Exercise, therefore, can be used as a surrogate to metabolize excessive stress hormones so that one can reach a more relaxed state. It is not a must for someone to do a vigorous physical exercise to achieve this. One can even walk in fresh air. A more permanent situation is the incorporation of physical activities in your daily routine.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. Exercise has the effect of pumping endorphins into the body. The endorphins are known as brain’s feel-good transmitters. Exercises help a person to forget about someone’s day irritations. The mood of a person can be improved following an exercise session. This is done by increasing one’s self-confidence, it can help someone to relax and can also lower the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety.
